Scotland in our Eyes Art Exhibition

I'm pleased to announce that I'll be reading four new poems at the private view on Friday 1st August and subsequent evening of Scotland in our Eyes Art Exhibition that have been written especially for the event.

I've been collaborating with artist, Constantine Anjulatos, who has created artworks from my poems.  This has been a very interesting process for me to ensure that the images in the poems stand out and Constantine has done a terrific job of translating these into his artworks.

The exhibition runs from 1st to 8th August at the Crown Court Church of Scotland in Russell Street, London WC2B 5EZ.

Hope to see you there!

Birkbeck Publishing Project, Launch of 45 Square Poetry Journal

Our final project of Birkbeck's Creative Writing BA course was a publishing project.  As fate would have it, I was Editor of the poetry journal, 45 Square.  We weren't allowed to submit poems for our own journal which was a shame.  However, this meant that we dedicated more time to the project, and much time was needed!!

Here's Assistant Editor, Tarquin Landseer, and I with our cover artist, Karina Vettorel at her University of East London degree show

plus the moment of truth when the hard copies arrived by courier.

The next day was the launch event which was a highly polished and exciting evening held at Stratford Circus, a great culmination of a brilliant course!

Take a look at the website created for the journal by our Production Manager, Matteo Muscas.

Ireland in our Eyes

This was the next exhibition in the World in our Eyes series was Ireland in our Eyes which took place at the Irish Centre in London.  It was shortly after the passing of Seamus Heaney and I was asked to read one of his poems as well as a new one I'd written for the event, The True Tale of the Giant's Causeway.

The Birkbeck Scribblers - 28 November 2012 - Benjamin Wood

The last Scribblers event I organised was on 28th November 2012 at The Plough pub close to the British Museum.  I compered again and managed to slip in an extract from a short story, Four Minutes.

We were fortunate to have our wonderful tutor, Benjamin Wood, read from his first novel, The
Bellwether Revivals.

In Paradisum

The In Paradisum Exhibition at Richmix was a lot of fun and the first time that I've been listed as an "artist" alongside collaborating artist, Bob Aldous, for our installation "How do you explain paradise to a goldfish?" that involved a golden fish, a goldfish bowl and video.

Here I'm checking the level of the fish

and here's the installation on its own.

Can you work out where the goldfish is?  More importantly, how would you explain paradise to a goldfish?
